A choice of walks amid the wild and grandiose landscapes, the rich and varied flora and fauna of the Natural Parks of the Serranía de Ronda. The itineraries are complementary to those of the 'Genal Valley' holiday.
ONE WEEK Activities: 5 walks of 5-7 hours plus an excursion with a short walk. The programme varies slightly according to the season. No portage of luggage; no technical difficulty; on (often steep/stony) footpaths with some 'off path' sections. Denivellations 400-800m a day. Group 12 maximum.
FULL BOARD 7 nights in twin rooms with a host family at Jubrique.
PRICE 589 euros per person; single room supplement 50 euros.
OPTION: 8H individual Spanish course; supplement 95 euros. Reserve on booking.

DAY-TO-DAY
SUNDAY: Transfer from Málaga to Jubrique.
MONDAY: We walk by the upper Monarda and Estercal valleys to the Charco Azul (blue pool), a wonderful natural bathing place. Buffet-picnic and return by vehicle.
TUESDAY: To the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, a name which recalls the time when snow, trodden into ice and stored in covered 'wells', was transported by mule from here to Málaga, Seville and the Doñana palace. After a steep ascent amid the pinsapos, we arrive at a plateau before the final climb to the Torrecilla (1919 m/6296 ft), summit of the Serranía de Ronda — immense views, including the Moroccan Rif, when clear.
WEDNESDAY: "Grand tour" of the Genal valley: old mills such as the Molino de Piña, the picturesque villages of Benadalid and Benalauría, the river Genal and the Mediterranean forest.
THURSDAY: Excursion in the Sierra de Grazalema and Alcornocales Natural Parks, including the troglodyte village of Setenil, Acinipo, the Ibero-Roman town with a well-preserved theatre, lunch at beautifully situated Benaocaz, the leather-working town of Ubrique and some magnificent viewpoints. Walk on a well-conserved Roman road!
FRIDAY: In the Sierra Bermeja (vermilion mountains): luxuriant pine forest, oak woods and chestnut groves, small streams and narrow vales, sheltering under the imposing peak of the Paraje Natural de los Reales (1450 m/4757 ft).
SATURDAY: Through the strange Llanos (poljes) del Pozuelo, de Zurraque, de Villaluenga and de Líbar: four fertile high plains flanked by limestone cliffs, once cultivated but now home to numerous grazing animals: cows, sheep, goats and black pigs... perhaps the chance to see Griffon vultures gliding majestically by.
SUNDAY: Transfer from Jubrique to Málaga.
